Winning the battle but losing the war
One lesson I’ve learned - in life and markets - is to be mindful about winning battles that lead to losing the war.
In conventional education we are taught to win as often as possible and we’ll emerge victorious.
But life isn’t so straightforward.
Not all conflicts are equally consequential and not all trophies are worth winning.
It is not uncommon for a small triumph to trigger a series of dominos that lead to catastrophic loss down the line.
So be thoughtful of tomorrow's sacrifices you make today in order to force victory.
Sometimes, you need to lose a battle to win the war.
