📊 Crypto portfolio update

Exposure: 100.0%

Net return: 1670.0%

Comments: It's been a bloody two weeks for altcoins as BTC pulled back from the prior all time high:

bitcoin april 2024 all time high

As BTC retraced -15%, many altcoins nuked -40%... and the sense of dread on Crypto Twitter has been palpable.

I don't think anyone believes the bull market is over, but if BTC makes a deeper pullback then altcoin holders are in for a LOT more pain.

In times like these, one's portfolio allocation is crucial.

Allocate too aggressively, and the next altcoin nuke could be fatal. On the other hand, allocate too conservatively and you might miss a bullish surge if/when the bull market continues.

The trick is to find a balance where you'll gain a meaningful profit if the market goes up, while at the same time not suffering too much if the market goes down.

Not many altcoins fit this description right now but if you've been paying attention you'd know the ones that do. 😉

🤡 Trading advice from YouTubers

From this thread:

TLDR: DON'T TAKE TRADING ADVICE FROM YOUTUBERS

Recently people have astounded by the accuracy of KSI's calls, with many even comparing him to one of the greatest traders crypto has ever seen, GCR. I didn't believe it, so I looked into it myself. Was KSI just a good trader who got blown up in Luna? Or is he a Youtuber throwing darts?

I looked at every single unique ticker he has shilled over three different time periods (14, 30 and 90 days). Tweets were scraped for cashtags and then manually verified and filtered for the those which were "buy signals".

The dataset spanned three years, most of which was 2021 and 2022 however there were four calls in 2023. This encompassed 74 unique tickers (we excluded Luna..) with the average returns from first shill resulting in about what you would expect from a YouTuber:

14 days: -28%
30 days: -43%
90 days: -91%

The total count of profitable calls 14 days after his shill was 7/74, or, around 10%. At 90 days? Just two coins were profitable. The funniest thing is they are both memecoins, despite him saying how much he hates memecoins

I have attached the spreadsheets below, as well as my favourites from his recent calls (which were horribly wrong despite what the timeline will tell you).

If you're reading this newsletter you already know to be skeptical of social media influencers and key opinion leaders (KOLs)... but this is a good data-driven reminder as to how poorly these grifters perform even though they have large followings.
